Planting near-natural forests together with I Plant a Tree
BPlanet supports social and environmental projects. One of them is I Plant a Tree, a non-profit organisation from Halle (Saale), Germany.
The idea behind I Plant a Tree:
- An initiative to track the tree planting called for by the United Nations.
- An online platform where users can have trees planted.
Forest and wood:
- Focus on near-natural mixed forests.
- No pressure to make a profit: clearings and wetlands are preserved for rare species.
The goal:
- Near-natural forests with a focus on Germany.
- Promoting alternatives to wood pulp.

Why reforestation matters
Between 2000 and 2010, around 5.2 million hectares of forest were lost worldwide every year (source: WWF). Forests are home to many plants and animals, store water, protect the soil from erosion and are places for relaxation. Reforestation projects such as I Plant a Tree create new, near-natural forests in Germany.
